Questions before you visit
Answers on arriving, on playing and on how the house is organised, gathered from the questions guests ask most often.
The questions we are asked most
This page gathers the questions that guests put to us by telephone, at the door and in correspondence. They fall into three groups: the practical matters of arriving, the matters of play, and the way the house is organised. If your question does not appear, please telephone and we shall answer it directly.
The answers are accurate at the time of writing. Opening hours and the weekly program are published in the footer and on their own page, and they take precedence if anything here appears to differ.
Getting here and getting in
Where can I park?
Kerbside parking is available along High Street, and there is additional space on the side street next to the building. Heavy vehicles, caravans and trailers should be left on the wider section of street near the highway turn.
Is the building accessible?
The dining room and the casino room are on one level and are reached by a ramp at the side entrance. Please tell us when you reserve if you require assistance, so that the doorway and the table can be prepared.
What if I arrive by air?
Meekatharra has a small airport, and the house can recommend a local taxi or arrange a pick-up by prior arrangement. Please telephone as soon as your flight is confirmed, because transport in town is limited.
Are children admitted?
No. The house is for adults only, which means guests aged 18 and over. This applies to the dining room as well as the casino room, and to every hour that the house is open.
What if I am running late?
Telephone the house and tell Caroline. Tables are held for fifteen minutes beyond the reserved time, and longer when we have been warned. Please do not hurry on the highway on our account.
At the tables
What does a croupier do?
A croupier runs a roulette table: spinning the wheel, calling the winning number, clearing the layout and managing the chips. The word comes from French, but in our case the croupiers are thoroughly local and speak plain Australian English.
Can I photograph the casino room?
Photographs of the room are welcome, provided that other guests and the dealers are not recognisable and the cards on the table are not shown. Please ask a member of staff if you are unsure.
May I leave the table and return?
Yes. Tell the dealer that you are stepping away, and your chips will be left at your seat for a short while. If the table is busy and your absence is long, the seat may be offered to someone on the waiting list.
Is smoking permitted?
Not indoors. Guests who wish to smoke may do so at the far end of the verandah, away from the entrance. The casino room and the dining room are both smoke-free.
May I bring my own cards or chips?
No. All cards, chips and equipment are supplied and controlled by the house, and any equipment brought from outside is returned to the guest at the door. This protects the fairness of every table.
Practical arrangements
Is there any charge for entry?
No. Entry to the house is free, and there is no cover charge, minimum spend or membership fee. You pay for your meal and refreshments, as in any restaurant, and nothing else.
Does the house offer vouchers or gift certificates?
No. The house does not sell or issue vouchers, certificates or credit of any kind. Nothing at the tables has value, and the only things bought here are meals, tea and coffee.
How are complaints handled?
Please raise a concern with the host or the floor manager on the evening, so that it can be corrected at once. If it cannot be settled at the door, write to us at the address in the footer, and a written reply will follow within a week.
Can I book for a large party?
Yes. Parties of up to fourteen can be seated together in the dining room, and larger parties can be accommodated by arrangement. Please telephone rather than use the form, so the numbers can be discussed.
How do I change or cancel a reservation?
Telephone or write as early as you can. There is no charge for changing or cancelling, but the table may be offered to a waiting party, and we would be grateful for the courtesy.
